Professors adjust their methods to reach technology savvy generation by Eleanor Yang Su.
Why is it challenging for instructors to keep the students attention? It must be a challenge for instructor Beth simons to keep the attention of 140 students when the students have technology devices in the classroom and using these devices as entertainment instead of engaging in the classroom. this is why Diana Oblinger, the vice president of Educause mentioned that technology in the classroom is only successful if it engages. Some students are called "Echo Boomers" because they quickly catch and understand the latest technologies in the way they work, relax, and socialize. The students even say that e-mail is for old people...hey!! Some professors say that its hard teaching the 1980's and early 1990's generation to teach the students styles for students to meet the critieria; however, they say that its rewarding connectiong with students through technology. College professors have developed internet tools and techniques to engage students. Some of these are labs, digital history, the ubiquitous presenter which is the black board or web CT, and clickers and web conferencing. What do professors do to keep the students attention? It's nice from the proffesors to adapt to the students and to keep in touch with the students for the assignments. Its impressive to know that almost half of all collegue courses use web sitesfor students to look up their grades, take quizzes and participate just as if they were all in a room and be envolved in the classroom.
