Equity Begins with Recognizing Diversity By: Chris Stephenson

What is Equity? Equity is where everyone gets what they need in order to achieve their full potential. This is very important because if there is no equity, some students will feel left out and it will be the reason for decreasing their grades. No student should be looked down upon because of their socioeconomic status, race, gender, physical abilities or attributes, religion, or culture. Mr. Stephenson gives us his ideas that he collected through research on technological equity as it relates to disability, ethnicity, class, and gender. What do people need? What everyone needs is an open mind, to keep an open heart, and to be honest by challenging the assumptions and programs one might have. Thissite again highlights how much jobs require technology skills or else the people will be considered disadvantage. Computer programming is expected to grow by 21-35% over the next ten years. "I dont want to beviewed as normal, but, rather as gifted and unique. Everyone lacks some ability. We are all gifted and unique in our own way" Chris Stephenson. " If we can provide all students with true equity of access, we can break that cycle of the haves and the have nots. The cycle of welfare is not an entrenched society but a pervasive society. If we can break that pervasive society, we've got it made" Sharon McCoy Bell.

Virtual Schooling By: Niki Davis and Dale S. Niederhausen

Enrollment for on line classes has raised sky high in the 2005-2006 school year. Why? to individually personalize schooling and help schools respond to No Child Left Behind legislation. On line learning also serves educational access opportunity for students who are place bound or displaced. This article mentions WebCT where learning management software provides access to a comprehensive set of curriculum materials, including content, student produced resources such as individual web pages, a course calendar, and a syllabus. It also has a discussion board, e-mail, and a drop box for completed assignments.Video conferencing is also important to learn. Self studey is an important aspect of the course using the text book as a tool. There are many roles and responsabilities for K-12 schools. they need to have principals, school counselors, instructructional technology coordinators and students parents or guardians to support. Individuals may take more than one of these roles. As for a teacher, they need communication and classroom organization skills. Teachers also need to effectively use a large variety of communication tools in ways to give students the opportunities to participate fully in activities and stay on task. Does this article have good resources? yes, and it also provides effective education tips for the thousands of participating students.

Technology Integration What Happens Now? By: Linda Merillat, Jennifer Holvoet, and Dough Adams

Two thirds of the U.S. population is connected to the internet! media players and cell phones. It's left to the schools on how to integrate this to the classrooms. Before, federal funds were earmarked for this purpose. Today, federal funding has been shifted to other priorities and the professional development and technical assistance the RTGCS provided are not supporting anymore, but, a lot of the resources developed during that period are still available and are great help to anyone struggling to intergrate technology into their classrooms. Does this article offer resources? yes, it offers a sampling of some of the helpful resources that are still available for integrating technology into the classroom. A summary of more than two hundred resources developed by the RTEC is available. What else is helpful? Mentoring for effective technology integration, for example, in 2001-2002 the New Jersey Department of Education selected a teacher from each county around the state to serve as a tech fellow and mentor teachers in effective technology integration, there is also teachers technology handbook where it has the best resources in lesson plans, lessonideas, and technology tips, the EdTech leaders online, a framework for effective technology and stydying proactices for increasing capacity in evaluation (SPICE).

An Emerging Technology For Education By: Linda E. Law

It would be great if all schools had a dome with inflatable dome, projector, software, laptops, and basic show content. Is it possible? Yes, the rapidly advancing process of projection technology has given high resolution projectors at lower prices for the reach of schools. There is a lot of affordable technology. Planetariums were built to teach about the stars, but it was used to teach about astronomy. With fulldome video, its open to all subjects, he dome is a blank convas waiting for students and everyone to explore. The most exciting and educational show to date is the mulecularium, riding snowflakes. It is a 3D animation of molecules, what is it? a magical journey into the world of atoms and molecules. Wow, great way to learn!Digital sky 2 is capable of navigating other information libraries, like DNA! "The innovative teachers who take on the grand breaking work of introducing this technology to their classroom will be rewarded by classes of students who are eager to come to school to learn" Its our responsability to provide our students with tools that match the capabilities of their multitasking minds. We need to help the students to take advantage of their environment that allows them to widen their imaginations in the years where they are more flexible.

Form Toy to Tool By:Liz Kolb

Are cell phones harmful to the classroom? Some teachers think that cell phones disturb while being in class, but cell phones are also part of students everyday existence. Cell phones are used to communicate and to collaborate with the world. Cell phones are learning tools. As teachers, we can show the students how to use their cell phone as tools for reconstructing knoledge. Students can create blogs, collect and store data, and develop multimedia projects. They can learn while having fun with their phones. Audioblogging with a cell phone helps students to conduct interview activities. Students have an instant recording and storage device instead of using microphones, tape recorders, and digital recorders. This article shows how to set up an audioblogging for a blog. Its easy. It only takes fifteen minutes. We have to remember the importance of considering fair use and copyright when students are posting to the internet. Why? Its the law. A concern about audioblogging which is privacy and protecting students, but a solution for this is to use blogzy.com, a password protected site that allows for cell phone audiobogs. There are some fees for some of the programs. A teacher may let a student bring a cell phone to class, but nedds boundaries to make sure the students are using the phone properly in class.

There are so many video clips uploaded everyday. A lot of money is made from these video clips, the article mentions its more than one billion dollars! Technology is expensive and a good business. Digital video is the next popular technology that is going to be used. There is higher technology where video can be used in the classrooms. PBS films all the animals in a close up with the high technology it has. They have tiny cameras where they can be placed anywhere without a person holding the camera and video taping the animals very close. The technology is so advanced it even has cameras that can go in the water!. Even though there are so many video resources on the web, there is no derect connection between this content and teachers instructional objectives. It's up to individual teachers to find ways to link these resources in order for the students to learn the skills. Its possible for teachers to download videoclips ahead of time in order for video clips to be available even if the school network is limited. The Discovery Network (DEN) is a great experience that provides teachers and students to upload and repost important information. About 70% of the schools in The United States are subscribed to this source.

How to fight the New Bullies, By: Rosalind Wiseman

Not only does school and class bullying exists, but also cyberbullying which is through the internet. What do you need to know? These bullies use e-mail, instant messages, cell phones, text messages, photos, and videos to bully and threaten others. Bullies do all kinds of things to bully other students. For example, a bully with a cell phone that has a camera would take a picture of a victim who is doing something someone wouldn't normally do in a public place. The bully will then upload the picture onto the computer and forwards it to friends or other people along with cruel comments. How damaging is it for the victims? The article mentions an example of a ninth grader who is affected greatly of this because she is unable to find out who is doing the cyber bullying to her. It got to the extend where she could not concentrate in school. Cyberbullying can be very disturbing. Fortunately there have been some laws fo fix this problem. We can all help solve this problem. For example,If we see a child targeting we can inform the parent. Technology is important for out younger ones, but we need to make sure they are using it the right way without affectiong anybody.

Social Justice Choice or necessity? By: Colleen Swain and David Edyburn

Is it necessary for students to be familiar with technology? It is necessary for students to be familiar with technology and to be able to use technology and need to know how to create presentations. Students with out this have a disadvantage for future educational and employement opportunities. In this societythat is now really advanced in technology. At least 80% of the jobs in the next two decades will require a person to be fluent in technology, if not, students will only have low paying jobs. This is why we all need to know how technology works. How?In order to introduce technology to younger students we can gain classroom access. There are some classrooms that have few access or no computer access, but the article mentions a few ways to solve this problem, we can locate powerful resources, there are a lot of instrucitional technology resources that can help us. there are new resources all the time for educators to use. It is essetial to do a lesson plan on what is going to be covered in class. When teachers decide not to use technology in the classroom, students are disadvantaged. If teachers want to help the students and go guide them to a better future, they should intergrade technology in the class.

Professors adjust their methods to reach technology savvy generation by Eleanor Yang Su.

Why is it challenging for instructors to keep the students attention? It must be a challenge for instructor Beth simons to keep the attention of 140 students when the students have technology devices in the classroom and using these devices as entertainment instead of engaging in the classroom. this is why Diana Oblinger, the vice president of Educause mentioned that technology in the classroom is only successful if it engages. Some students are called "Echo Boomers" because they quickly catch and understand the latest technologies in the way they work, relax, and socialize. The students even say that e-mail is for old people...hey!! Some professors say that its hard teaching the 1980's and early 1990's generation to teach the students styles for students to meet the critieria; however, they say that its rewarding connectiong with students through technology. College professors have developed internet tools and techniques to engage students. Some of these are labs, digital history, the ubiquitous presenter which is the black board or web CT, and clickers and web conferencing. What do professors do to keep the students attention? It's nice from the proffesors to adapt to the students and to keep in touch with the students for the assignments. Its impressive to know that almost half of all collegue courses use web sitesfor students to look up their grades, take quizzes and participate just as if they were all in a room and be envolved in the classroom.
